Advanced Heart Failure Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center welcomes Jesus Almendral, M.D., FACC

Neptune, NJ - Cardiovascular disease specialist, Jesus Almendral, M.D., FACC has joined Hackensack Meridian Health as the Medical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Here, Dr. Almendral will provide advanced treatment options, including the latest Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), HeartMate 3, for patients who are not responding to conventional therapies.

The LVAD, HeartMate 3 is a mechanical pump that assists the heart in pumping blood to the rest of the body, allowing patients to live a fuller, more active life than before.

Prior to joining Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Dr. Almendral served at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital as the Medical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Program; he was also distinguished as an Assistant Professor of Medicine.

He earned his medical degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine; and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. He completed a fellowship in Cardiology/Hypertension at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. At Stanford University, he completed a fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation.

Dr. Almendral is board certified in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Internal Medicine. He has been in practice for over 20 years.

The Advanced Heart Failure Center provides specialized cardiovascular care for heart failure patients by providing counseling, promoting compliance, and offering advanced treatment options such as inotropic therapy or left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) that can contribute to improved outcomes – including decreased symptoms, improved quality of life, and reduced rates of hospital re-admission.

Using a multidisciplinary approach, the experienced team of surgeons, cardiologists and coordinators at Jersey Shore University Medical Center can evaluate patients to see if they are candidates for LVAD, perform surgical implantation of the pump and treat patients’ post-implant management on site.
